Question: why do workers such as miners who have worked in a dusty envionment for many years breath more rapidly than people who have worked in a clean area?
Working in dusty environments such as mines has it’s long term effects on the lungs. The lungs are filled with very tiny sacs, alveoli, that are used for gaseous exchange. The continued exposure to dusty environments affcts some of these sacs damaging them. Hence, some people who are affected tend to breathe faster to compensate fro the damaged sacs – to increase the amount of air taken in.
